In recent decades, the number of conflicts characterized by a more or less explicit appeal to what we commonly call “religion” has increased significantly. At first glance, this might suggest a non-random relationship between “religion” and “violence”.

In his presentation, professor Gustavo Morello S.J. will explore how different political factions used religious ideas to legitimize their violent struggles (left wing guerrillas and right wing state terrorism) in Argentina and how that experience has shaped the role of religion in the political sphere until now.

This public lecture is an opportunity to engage a discussion on the relationship between religion and violence on different levels (social, political, educational, as well as local) against the background of our investigation on religion and innovation.

The seminar is open to the public and will be held in English.
