According to a shared view, philosophy and theology are in a relationship of structural opposition. While philosophy reflects on the world regardless of revelation, theology has no other purpose than to conform to faith, and more specifically to the Christian faith. If this were true, philosophy and theology would have very little to say to each other and would confront each other for the sole purpose of asserting their own worldview, using arguments as means of demarcation and dissuasion. But can the discourse on God be understood otherwise, so that it is not necessarily opposed to philosophy? Could it not be that debating God and with God, while accepting the inevitable incompleteness of both authentic faith and the urge for making sense of everything, is still the condition for being able to talk about what really matters in our lives, while remaining silent about the rest?
