PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK “THE POST-SECULAR CITY” BY PAOLO COSTA AT THE FACULTY OF LAW OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TRENTO

12 March 2019

On Monday 18 March at 11.00 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Faculty of Law at the University of Trento, E. Camassa (Trento), P. Cavana (Roma), M. Nicoletti (Trento) will discuss the book by Paolo Costa The Post-secular City.

State secularism is a basic constitutional principle in all the political regimes which are concerned about the equality and freedom of their citizens. Historically speaking, this was the outcome of a long-term process that goes under the name of «secularization». In the last decades, however, the anthropological, sociological, philosophical meaning of this process is radically changed. What are the consequences of this shift on our understanding of religious freedom and of the duties of a secular State?

Paolo Costa is a researcher of the Centre for Religious Studies of FBK.
Erminia Camassa, scientific organizer of the event, is tenured professor of Canon Law at the Law School of the University of Trento.
