Health, Ethics and Medicine

This line of research focuses on the ethics of medicine and healthcare interpreted as clinical ethics, research ethics and organizational healthcare ethics.

Dedicated to the study and analysis of the philosophical, ethical and cultural components and references and focused on the main bioethical issues, this research line adopts both a theoretical and a practical approach and applies different research methodologies. It considers specific healthcare and clinical contexts on a national, international and global level, where clinical choices and decisions are more complex and moral and/or religious visions and values need to be considered.

Adopting a narrative, participative and reflective approach, the research involves a broad set of stakeholders, from patients, family members, and healthcare professionals, to healthcare organizations and institutions.

FBK-ISR’s expertise in ethics of medicine and healthcare is contributes to local ethics committees, as the Ethics Committee for Clinical Practice (Comitato etico per le attività sanitarie) at the Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari (APSS), Trento, the Ethics Committee for Research (University of Trento) and the Animals Welfare Committee (University of Trento).

Activities also include education and training for Master’s and PhD students, clinicians and healthcare professionals, as well as dissemination of research results to non-experts.
